People Awaken!
Many words could be written from today's events on this topic but Daniel Webster said it almost 200 years ago so I'll just leave you with his words:

Take Care
Recent statements by our politicians suggest that one small portion of one sentence taken out of context gives them the right to invade and regulate our personal lives to the point of a nanny state. Our founding fathers would be ashamed of those willing to sacrifice their freedoms for a little safety. They fought with everything they had to win our liberty from tyrants and just a mere flash in history later we have forgotten their sacrifices.
Here is the part being taken out of context:

...he shall take care that the laws be
faithfully executed, ...
It would be real easy to rant off topic so I will control myself and get back to the take care clause. Our constitution is clear who makes the laws and it is not the President, it also makes it clear who who holds the ultimate power and it always comes back to the people. That is why it is so vitally important that we educate ourselves on our rights, read our Constitution, read our Declaration of Independence, pay attention to what our lawmakers and get back to being the ever vigilant people of the United States of America our forefathers sacrificed so much for.

Complacency, Conviction and the Constitution

Have you ever been complacent, comfortable in your life and willingly ignoring the ever present political upheaval of the day? I know you have, so have I but as our founding fathers came to a point where tyranny could no longer be ignored so have I. We live in a very interesting world today with so much information at our fingertips and so comfortable in our lifestyle that most turn a blind eye, willingly ignorant of important topics and events that could change our world beyond belief.
My blindness convicted me especially hard when I came to the realization that I had been one of the comfortable, choosing to be ignorant. In my ancestry is a man and his family that gave their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor for freedom, literally.
Being a direct descendant of Richard Stockton signer of the Declaration of Independence I should have been more vigilant to protect what he and his family sacrificed so heavily for. He was a American lawyer holding the highest degree of law of the day, jurist, legislator, later a judge and continental congressman along with being a close friend of George Washington.

Stockton first took a moderate stance in the conflict between the Crown and the Colonies even traveling to England, Ireland and Scotland trying to bring the message of a peaceful resolution. In 1774 he drafted and sent to Lord Dartmouth "a plan of self-government for America, independent of Parliament, without renouncing the Crown. In London he attended the Queen’s birthday ball and was presented to
King George III, later he had the honor of giving a speech to the King
acknowledging the repeal of the Stamp Act and the King was impressed by
Stockton. But alas the King refused to be deprived of the fairest jewel in his crown, the colonies known as America. Long story made short Richard Stockton a successful man living a comfortable lifestyle came to the same conclusion many are coming to today that Liberty is worth standing for.
